The Essence of Yoga

Yoga, a 5000-year-old practice from India, is often defined as “Chitta vritti nirodhaha” or “stilling the fluctuations of the mind”. It’s a spiritual journey that aims to control the mind and draw the senses inward, focusing on the body, breath, and mind. Yoga seeks to unite these elements, fostering a deep connection with oneself and others.

Yoga isn’t about perfection; it’s about starting where you are and progressing from there. Each class brings you closer to your goals, cultivating self-acceptance and balance. In our Yoga classes, we prioritise two key qualities: “sthira” (stability and power in a pose) and “sukha” (the ability to relax in a pose), as described in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.

What to Expect

Our Yoga instructors teach with love and passion, providing mindful attention to your individual needs. We create a serene and focused environment, far from the distractions of large studios. Each asana (physical posture) is tailored to your capabilities, whether you’re new to Yoga or an experienced practitioner. Alongside asanas, we introduce various breathing techniques (pranayama in Sanskrit) that calm, energise, heat, or cool the body.

Our teaching style encompasses Raja Yoga, the Royal Path of Yoga, as well as Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Flow classes for dynamic movement. Our evening classes feature Yin Yoga, a calming practice to prepare your body for restful sleep. Mental coaching elements, such as dream journeys during final relaxation, may also be included.
